Center for Mitochondrial Medicine

The CMM aims to become the leading and innovative platform axis for scholarly training in medical research and clinical practice, that translates discoveries in the mitochondrial science field to diagnostics and therapeutics that saves lives.

Welcome

Welcome to the Center for Mitochondrial Medicine, where cutting edge research meets unparalleled expertise. Our Center is a hub of innovation, bringing together multiple leaders in the fields of ion channels, mitochondrial medicine, signal transduction and translational medicine. With a team of esteemed assistant, associate and full professors, we are at the forefront of multidisciplinary programs in molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, biophysics, genetics and epigenetics.

Welcome from the Director

We can do it together! The mitochondrion is a complex organelle where many pathways and dynamic cell functions overlap. It is critical that crosstalk and collaboration of researchers, clinicians and academia contribute to the discovery and implementation of novel insights into therapeutic targets to ameliorate the effects of mitochondrial dysfunction in disease. The Center for Mitochondrial Medicine (CMM) hopes to disentangle enigmatic features of mitochondrial disease and be the tip of the spear in effective therapeutic developments and discovery.

Statement from the Dean

I am proud to support our new research center, The Center for Mitochondrial Medicine (CMM) which is the first center of its kind in San Antonio, Texas. The CMM will be the foundation of excellence in leading groundbreaking research and fortifying longevity in extramural funding support. I encourage you to become a member of the CMM today and be an integral part of a center that will forge the bridge between clinical and research pioneers dedicated to collaboration and making lives better through unique therapeutic platforms and translational research that serves our communities. Let’s be stronger together!
